Herbal Remedies for Cancer

If any of your beloved ones are suffering from cancer, you may be on the lookout of every possible way for treating the disease. They look upon the herbs as an alternative medicine to treat the disease. Herbal remedies can be used for most any possible ailment. Whether or not herbal remedies for cancer can be effective depends on many different factors. It is important to understand that everyone is different. What works well for one person may not work well for another. If you would like to try an herbal remedy, consult with your doctor before doing so.

It's also important to understand what herbs can and cannot accomplish. Herbs are not used to cure cancer. However individuals with cancer may benefit from herbal remedies in a variety of ways. For example, if a person undergoing chemotherapy or radiation is feeling nauseous, an herbalist or doctor may recommend some soothing ginger tea. For individuals who are losing their hair from such treatments, there are herbal scalp treatments that may encourage or accelerate new hair growth.

Some cancer sufferers might also use herbs in an attempt to boost vitality or immunity. Echinacea, for example, is considered a great remedy to fight winter colds and other contagious viruses. Licorice root and milk thistle are ideal for anyone seeking to remove toxins from their liver. Although chlorella and spirulina aren't actually herbs but rather forms of ocean algae, they are considered healthy for some people with cancer because they are filled with nutrients and help remove impurities and possibly even radiation from the body. Herbs such as these can be found in a variety of different forms on shelves in health food stores and vitamin aisles of some supermarkets and drugstores. Some remedies are so common they can be purchased most anywhere, others are a bit more hard to find.

Individuals who want to try herbal remedies for cancer should first talk at length with their doctor. Some doctors are well versed in alternative medicine, others not so much. If your doctor isn't knowledgeable about herbs, find one who is or consider seeing a naturopath or herbalist. It's never a good idea to take herbs or any other supplements without the consent of your doctor. This is because herbs can sometimes interact with other medicines and cause potentially dangerous side effects.
