A Guide to Herbal Anxiety Remedies
Anxiety has become a common suffering for many people.Anxiety is mainly due to uncomfortable feeling of fear, dread or uneasiness which is often considered to be chronic and persistent. Sometimes, people with anxiety aren't even sure why they feel anxious. There are certainly plenty of prescription drugs for anxiety which include antidepressants and benzodiazepines. However these drugs are just not right for everyone. Some people would rather try herbal anxiety remedies before turning to prescription medications which are costly and may have unwanted side effects. It is important to ask your doctor before taking herbal remedies, especially if you are taking other medications or supplements.
There are some people who shouldn't use herbal remedies for their anxiety. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should steer clear. People who are taking prescription or over the counter medications should check with their doctor to make sure there are no dangerous interactions between the herbs and their current medicines. One of the most gentle and well-tolerated herbs for anxiety is chamomile. Many people drink chamomile tea for its soothing effect. Other people prefer taking chamomile in a tincture to get the strongest effect quickly.
Kava kava is another herb many people swear works well for anxiety. However, there have been some recent reports about kava kava having a harmful effect on the liver. Therefore, if you want to try this herb for anxiety, do so under the strict supervision of your physician. Valerian is yet another herb that many use for anxiety. It is also commonly used as a sleep aid. Both kava and valerian are often used in supplement, tea or tincture form. Passionflower is also commonly used for the reduction of symptoms caused by anxiety.
Some people like using aromatherapy for the reduction of anxiety. Chamomile and lavender is a great combination that is thought to be so effective for the purposes of relaxation that it is now commonly found in baby lotions and washes. While the combination of these two scents does seem to calm fussy infants, it can work wonders for adults, too. Aromatherapy is certainly one of the safest herbal anxiety remedies because you're not ingesting anything. To make the most of fragrant herbs, put a few drops of essential oil on a hankerchief and inhale the scent gently. A warm bath with a few drops of fragrant oil added is also a fantastic stress buster!
